To attract the greatest variety of birds to your yard, provide several different feeder types offering a variety of foods. You’ll find that some species are more likely to use one kind of feeder over another.  

Tray or Platform Feeders

Tray Feeders allow birds to easily locate seed. Try placing the versatile EcoTough tray feeder in your favorite viewing area and attract a diverse group of birds by offering different types of bird seed, peanuts, Bark Butter Bits® or fruit. EcoTough feeders are environmentally friendly, high quality products that are made from recycled plastic. These feeders prevent used milk jugs from making their way into our landfills. There are many sizes to choose from, and different options for hanging or mounting.  We also offer cedar wood trays. Tray feeders placed near the ground are most likely to attract ground-feeding birds such as juncos, doves, jays, blackbirds, and sparrows (along with squirrels, deer, raccoons, and other critters).  Most tray feeders will have a removable mesh screen floor that helps with drainage and is easy to clean.

Fly-Thru Feeders

Fly-thru feeders offer the convenience of a try feeder with the added protection of a roof.  The roof will protect the bird and the food from the elements.  There are hanging versions as well as ground versions, and there are a variety of sizes.

Hopper Feeders

Hopper feeders offer some protection from the elements and also can hold more seed, so they typically do not have to be filled as often. Just about all songbirds are attracted to this type of feeder.  They can be hung or pole mounted, and come in a variety of sizes and materials.  Our EcoTough feeders are environmentally friendly, high quality products made from recycled plastic milk jugs. The Classic has curved ends so you can see birds feeding on both sides at the same time. Perch drains allow seed to drop out of the feeder for ground-feeding birds to eat, and angled perches let empty seed hulls be blown away by the wind. Window Feeders

These feeders are usually small plastic feeders that can affix to window glass with suction cups, and platform feeders hooked into window frames. These feeders attract finches, chickadees, titmice, and some sparrows. They afford us wonderful, close-up views of birds, and their placement makes them the safest of all feeder types for preventing window collisions.  These feeders also come in different sizes and styles. These types are usually the easiest to clean.

Tube Feeders

Our Quick-Clean™ Seed Tube Feeders are the absolute easiest to clean feeders on the market. A quick press of two buttons and the base pops off for easy access. It attracts birds such as finches, nuthatches, chickadees and woodpeckers. These feeders allow for easy viewing of the birds while feeding.  They come in a variety of sizes. Finch Feeders or Nyjer Feeders

Nyjer (also called thistle) feeders are especially popular with American Goldfinches, Pine Siskins, and Common Redpolls. They come in different forms; tube feeders with very small feeding ports, mesh tubes, and thistle “socks”, fine-mesh bags to which birds cling to extract the seeds. Nyjer is a very tiny seed that has an oil that attracts Finches. As tiny as nyjer seeds are, the black part on the outside is merely the shell—finches slit through this to extract the even tinier seed within. These feeders are perfect for our Finch Blend seed, which combines the Nyjer with finely crushed sunflower seeds. Our Quick-Clean™ Finch Feeders are designed to make life a little simpler for your birds and you. The reinforced metal feed ports make it easy for finches to dine on Nyjer® (thistle), while the removable base makes cleaning a breeze. Suet and Cylinder Feeders

Suet feeders attract a variety of woodpeckers, nuthatches, chickadees, titmice, jays, and starlings. Suet cages that open only at the bottom force birds to hang upside down while feeding. This design usually excludes starlings, which have trouble perching that way. WBU offers the EcoTough® Tail Prop Suet Feeder which lets birds eat in a natural way. The paddle simulates a tree trunk and offers birds a place to prop their tail while they feed. We also have basic suet cages which are plastic coated on the outside, easy to fill, and easy to hang or mount. We also offer suet in a cylinder form, and have several feeders to choose from.

Our exclusively-formulated Seed Cylinders and Stackables keep birds at the feeders longer because they have to work to remove seeds. So instead of birds swooping in, grabbing a bite and taking off, Seed Cylinders give you a few extra moments of enjoyment. There are several types of cylinder feeders from very basic to more asthetically pleasing combining creative design and feeding functionality. There are models with trays, which not only can catch food from falling to the ground, but can offer the birds a place to sit or stand while eating, giving even more time at the feeder.

Squirrel Proof Feeders

Protect your bird seed bounty from squirrels with a squirrel proof bird feeder. These feeders typically  have a weight sensitive mechanism that will close the seed ports when a squirrel lands on it or grabs it. Some feeders have an adjustable sensitivity level, which can be adjusted not just for the weight of squirrels, but also nuisance birds like pigeons, starlings, grackles, and doves. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, including Finch feeders, and suet feeders.
